The world fell in love with Julie Andrews in the 1965 film adaption of The Sound of Music. This much-loved musical returns to the Savoy after 17 years and promises to enthral a whole new generation with all your favourite songs such as Do Re Mi, Climb Every Mountain, Edelweiss and My Favourite Things.
This heartwarming story is based on the real-life von Trapp Family Singers and tells the story of Maria, a free-spirited postulant at an Austrian abbey, who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children and brings a new love of life and music into their home. Our heroine, Maria, is played by Maryanne van Eyssen, fresh from her stunning performances in Dancing Down Broadway.
Local radio and theatre personality Paul Leonard will reimagine the role of Captain von Trapp and popular Bay singer Tara-Jane Stern, a regular in many Centrestage hit shows, will play Baroness Elsa Schrader. Joining them will be Lucretia Sikwebu, last seen as Bloody Mary in South Pacific, as the Mother Abbess, Glen McIlroy as Rolf, and a cast of 14 young people who will bring to life the von Trapp children in two teams playing in alternate performances. Liesl von Trapp will be brought to life by Zoe Gray and Crystal Leonard, performing the famous song 16 going on 17. The younger von Trapp children will be played by Asante de Lange and James Huntley as Friedrich, Gemma Bissaker and Sarah MacKenzie as Louisa; Joshua Parkin and Matthew Broom as Kurt, Amy Bright and Mieke Swanepoel as Brigitte, Scarlett Mey-de Lange and Josie Ranwell as Marta, and the youngest von Trapp, Gretl, by Scout Mey-de Lange and Logan Ferreira. Don`t miss out on a wonderful show.
