A Joint Operations Centre (JOC) has been established by the Buffalo City Metro (BCM) to deal with the current unprecedented gale force winds in the city.

Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said the JOC has been set up at the Disaster Management Center at the East London fire station.

He says they are currently in a meeting and will issue a statement in due course to respond to damages, service interruptions and further warnings.

Meanwhile, large parts of NMB woke up without power on Sunday morning.

The Metro confirmed an outage at the Kragga Kamma Substation affecting Charlo, Framesby, Sunridge Park, Mangold Park, Walmer Downs and parts of Walmer.

Several residents, however, are reporting power outages in areas not serviced by the substation.

Reports of big trees and debris on some roads have also been received with some residents waking up to dry taps.

Algoa FM News reached out to the NMBM for a detailed report on the current weather-related disruptions and infrastructure challenges.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution.

A spokesperson for the South African Weather Service in Gqeberha, Garth Sampson says very good rain has fallen in the Langkloof area with most places measuring at least 40 mm.

The leader of the Democratic Alliance in the NMBM, Retief Odendaal took to social media on Sunday to give an update and possible reasons for the water outages in the City.
