The country's Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Andrew Whitfield, has been fired.
The Democratic Alliance confirmed the announcement on Thursday, following President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement of the composition of the National Executive of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The DA's Federal Council Chairperson, Helen Zille, has convened an urgent meeting for Thursday, before addressing the media.
There has been no clear indication as to why Whitfield, the Provincial Leader for the DA in the Eastern Cape, was removed.
The portfolio, which consisted of two deputy ministers, is now left with Deputy Minister Zuki Godlimpi, also from the Eastern Cape.
This is a developing story.
