The High Court in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape has ruled in favor of the Walter Sisulu University Student Representative Council, preventing the university from evicting students from its campuses.
According to the public broadcaster, the SRC brought an urgent court application, after security guards were ordered to remove them from the campus.
This follows an incident in which a student was shot and killed during student protests on the campus on Tuesday.
Two other students were injured, and a 54-year-old staff member was arrested.
The judge also issued an order interdicting the students from vandalising university property when the case was heard on Friday evening.
