Woman and another man arrested for EC farm attack

Two more suspects have been arrested for a robbery on a farm in the Burgersdorp area of the Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse, says the two were arrested late on Monday night by different police units acting on a tip-off.

This brings to four the number of suspects arrested for the house robbery at Alfalfa Farm on Monday.

The 81-year-old farmer Jannie Terburg and a worker returned from the field when the elderly man was attacked and tied up in the passage.

His co-worker was locked up in the bathroom.

Roelofse says by then the domestic worker and two gardeners were also tied up.

The three suspects ransacked the house and stole several items including a firearm and ammunition, before fleeing in the farmer's bakkie.

Roelofse said neighbouring farmers later spotted the vehicle and alerted the police and a chase ensued during which shots were fired. One suspect was arrested while the other, who sustained a gunshot wound, was arrested later in Tembisa township.

She says two men in their thirties as well as a 55-year-old female were arrested and will appear in court soon.

Police confiscated the vehicle used in the crime as well as several items stolen from the robbery.

Police also found the stolen firearm and the farmer's bakkie.
