A murder trial currently underway in the High Court in Gqeberha could not proceed on Monday after the defence advocate in the trial was arrested.
The well-known advocate and a former acting Judge, Siphokazi Cubungu is facing charges of fraud, alternatively theft and a charge of corruption, alternatively money laundering.
The National Prosecuting Authority's spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, says Cubungu appeared in court on Monday and was granted bail of R3 000.
He says the matter was postponed to June 9th, when Adv. Cubungu is expected to appear alongside her co-accused, Dumisani Zwani, who is believed to be an administrative clerk for the state.
Cubungu grabbed the headlines when she represented Luthando Siyoni, the convicted middleman in the murder of Bay schoolteacher Jayde Panayiotou.
