Search continues for Bay child now missing for 419 days

Its been over a year since police in Gqeberha offered a R50 000 reward for information that could lead to the safe return of missing four-year-old Nakane Lizane, of Wells Estate.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offence Unit (FCS) is still investigating his disappearance and to date, no new information has been forthcoming.

She says Nakane went missing on 11 May 2023, while playing outside his parent’s home after being dropped off from daycare.

The child was playing outside with his 10-year-old brother while their mother was cooking supper.

When she called them to come and eat, only the older brother came inside.

Following a frantic search, his mother reported him missing and a mass search party was launched.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says numerous search parties were formed, and mass searches conducted with the assistance of SAPS, community members, media houses, and even private security companies who offered their drones to scan the surrounding areas.

She says they are again appealing to anyone who can shed light into his mysterious disappearance to contact the Investigating Officer (IO) Mluleki Mhlangani on 079 896 7509.

At the time of his disappearance, Nakane was wearing a pair of black jeans, a light-coloured T-shirt, and a black jacket.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says they need any information that can lead to a positive outcome, the child must be found, irrespective of the circumstances.

Lizane was reported missing at the Swartkops police station.
