Wanted PE murder suspect arrested

File

Members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 22-year-old man in Port Elizabeth who was wanted for allegedly shooting a pregnant woman, killing her unborn baby.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said he was arrested in Booysens Park in the early hours of Sunday morning in connection with the incident late in January.

“It is alleged that a 31-year-old female was in Desdemonia Close when she was approached by three unknown males. They demanded her cell phone and as she reached for her phone, one of the suspects fired shots at her,” Naidu said.

She said the woman sustained injuries to the stomach, thigh, and right arm and lost her baby.

“The suspect was known to the complainant and a case of murder and attempted murder was opened for investigation,” Naidu said.

She said he was also wanted for a shooting incident in Khayamanandi in Despatch in September where shots were fired at a man walking in Bantu Holomisa Road.

No one was injured and Naidu said the suspect was also known to the complainant in this matter.

He is due to appear in court soon on a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
