A Sergeant at the Kabega Park police station has been released on bail following her appearance on fraud charges in the Gqeberha magistrate’s court on Thursday.
Forty-Eight-Year-old Sergeant Nomvuyiseko Somekete has been charged with 16 counts of fraud.
According to the police, Somkete was arrested on Wednesday.
It is alleged that she fraudulently took out life insurance policies on unsuspecting individuals amounting to more than R1.1m.
According to the charge sheet, the accused took out the policies claiming to be the victim’s aunt, mother, cousin, and wife.
Bail was set at R500, and the case was postponed to 24 July for further investigation.
