Go George expands service to residents of Thembalethu

The Go George bus service will launch the much-anticipated second route to Thembalethu on Monday, following delays due to the N2 bridge construction.

The first route, R18A links Thembalethu, George, and Blanco, with the second route connecting Thembalethu and George Industria.

Western Cape Mobility Minister, Isaac Sileku, will join Go George Bus Service manager, Morne’ Lakay and executive mayor, Jackie von Brandis, for the inaugural trip and the opening of the Mall Transfer Facility.

Von Brandis said while the launch of the new route was delayed due to traffic congestion caused by the critical N2 bridge construction, she said the launch “will please the commuters of Thembalethu who have been waiting for the new route for so long”.

Premier Alan Winde said affordable, reliable, and accessible public transport for residents is critical to enabling the economy and creating more jobs.

Lakay says the new route represents a milestone in the “history of public transport in George” and the Southern Cape.”

Minister Sileku, meanwhile, said that the Go George network is typical of what can be achieved in public transport development if all partners work together.
