Two former Spar employees, who allegedly defrauded the business out of R2.3 million, made a brief appearance in the Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday.
Nicole Bekker, 37, and Chantelle Erasmus, 48, allegedly defrauded Acres Spar between 2021 and 2023.
They face charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering.
As part of their duties, the pair were responsible for paying money into the store's bank account, but they allegedly pocketed the cash instead.
At the time that the alleged offences took place, Bekker was employed as a manager and Erasmus was the bookkeeper.
The case was remanded to 7 August for possible plea negotiations.
Both accused are out on bail of R5 000 each.
