Bay prosthetist in court on allegations of RAF fraud

A health care provider who makes artificial limbs for people with disabilities handed himself over to police this week in connection with an investigation on allegations of RAF fraud.

Spokesperson for the Hawks in the Eastern Cape Yolisa Mgolodela says 37-year-old prosthetist, Ruan Lundt appeared briefly in the New Law Courts in Gqeberha on Tuesday.

She says it is alleged that in 2022, Lundt submitted quotes with seven claims to the Road Accident Fund in both his company name, Lundt Orthotics & Prosthetics, and that of a company named Moolman Orthopaedics, without their knowledge.

Captain Mgolodela says it is further alleged that the quotes were orchestrated in such a way that Lundt's company was selected over that of Moolman's.

She says as a result a payout of more than R290 000 was allegedly paid to Lundt's company as a portion of the payment.

The RAF discovered some red flags in the claims and referred the matter to the Hawks for probing which ultimately saved RAF a further potential prejudice of more than R440 000.

Lundt was released on a warning and must be back in court on the 23rd of August for legal representation.
