At least three people, including a toddler, were killed in an accident on the R35 between Bethal and Middelburg at the weekend.
The collision between a truck and a car on Friday evening left five more people injured.
Mpumalanga Transport Department spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi said a child was amongst the victims.
"Three people, including a toddler, perished at the scene on impact. Three other people sustained serious injuries, while two occupants were slightly injured. "The injured people are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital in Middelburg,” he said.
Mmusi says the occupants are believed to be Ethiopian nationals, and indications are that one of the drivers may have entered the R35 when it was not safe to do so.
On Thursday, five people lost their lives on the N4 between Belfast and Machadodorp, leaving motorists stranded for hours in the traffic.
A sixth person died in hospital the next day.
