Police have arrested another drug mule at the OR Tambo International Airport following his arrival from Brazil.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the suspect arrived on a flight from São Paulo on Friday morning when he was intercepted by authorities.
She said he was in transit to Benin.
Mathe said during a body search authorities found cocaine strapped around his legs.
She said the Brazilian national is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court soon on a charge of drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the SAPS released fourth-quarter crime statistics on Friday, highlighting that 23,306 suspects were arrested for the possession of drugs during the period under review.
These included 20 drug mules arrested at ORTIA over a six month period.
SAPS said a total of 3471 suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs.
