Breakthrough in double murder at Rustenburg shopping mall

Police in Rustenburg made a breakthrough in their investigation into the double murder of an elderly couple who were shot at a shopping mall parking lot in broad daylight last week.

The 69-year-old George Koster and his 66-year-old wife Wilma, allegedly got involved in an argument over a parking space when two men driving a Kia Rio, with no number plates, fired the deadly shots.

Police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh says the excellent crime intelligence work helped them identify, locate, and trace the vehicle involved.

She says the vehicle was traced to Boitekong, where the suspect conceded that he was in the car on that fateful day, but that his friend was the one who had fired the shots.

Colonel Myburgh says he led them to his alleged accomplice's home, where the suspect showed them a pistol.

The men aged 29 and 41 were arrested and are expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
