Port Elizabeth police have arrested 18 suspects during a special operation at the weekend.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says police conducted compliance inspections at taverns, as well as stop and searches and drunken driving operations throughout the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro which included Mount Road, Motherwell and Uitenhage clusters from Friday until Sunday morning.
She says the suspects were arrested for murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, drunken driving, illegal possession of ammunition and business robbery.
Naidu says 10 taverns were visited in Kwazakele, Kwanobuhle and New Brighton.
One tavern owner in Kwanobuhle was fined R2000 in terms of the Liquor Act.
All those arrested will appear in court on Monday.
