Police in Port Alfred have released the name of the person who was found murdered in his home in Kenton-on-Sea on Sunday morning.
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says he was identified as the 54-year-old Johannes Petrus van der Merwe who lived alone.
She says a relative who failed to reach him arrived at the house to find van der Merwe already dead.
Captain Govender says both the front and back doors were open and there did not appear to have been forced entry.
The deceased had been tied up but nothing appeared to have been taken from the house.
Forensic experts were dispatched to the scene to gather information and establish the cause of death.
The motive for the murder is not yet known and anyone with information is asked to contact their nearest police station.
