Eskom's planned Kouga shutdown will affect water supply to parts of NMB Metro

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents and businesses that Eskom will have a planned shutdown on Wednesday the 14th of August 2019 from 5 am- 6 pm which might affect water supply in certain areas.

Eskom will be switching off the power supply to almost the whole of the Kouga Municipality affecting  Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis, Oyster Bay, Hankey, Patensie and Loerie.

As a result of this, the Elandsjagt Water Treatment Works outside Humansdorp - which pumps water to Nelson Mandela Bay - will be offline for the day.

NMB said the Churchill Water Treatment Works will therefore not be able to completely satisfy the demand from that zone by itself.

NMB spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki requested residents to use water sparingly during the shutdown so that the storage in the reservoirs are not depleted.

He says if that happens, the following areas might experience low pressure or water cuts:

  • Zwide
  • Gelvandale
  • Helenvale
  • Kwazakhele
  • New Brighton
  • North End
  • Central
