Port Elizabeth police are investigating the rapes of two women in separate incidents on Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, says in the one incident a 27-year-old woman was abducted and raped by two men in Swartkops after returning home late at night.

He said the men tied her up and drove her around in her own car before returning to the house which they ransacked.

Beetge says she was able to free herself and call for help.

In the second incident, he said a 40-year-old woman using a so-called Jikileza taxi to Motherwell was allegedly raped by the driver.

The driver diverted from the route into Markman under pretences that he had to pick up other passengers too. He then drove into bushes close by and raped her at knifepoint.

Beetge says she managed to run to a business nearby after the driver left her there.
