Afrikaans singer Jacques de Coning dies in car accident

 52 year old Afrikaans singer, Jacques de Coning, died Sunday morning in a car accident at around 10.30 am.

According to media reports, De Coning was involved in a head-on collision on the R72 between Alexandria and Kenton- on- Sea in the Eastern Cape. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the fatal accident, the driver of the other vehicle was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

De Coning’s son, Basil, also died tragically in a car accident five years ago in Port Elizabeth.

As an artist, Jacques was known for his rendition of famous FAK songs, such as Girl van die Klein Karoo and Die Groot Voël Medley. He started his Afrikaans song writing career in 1998 by writing a song for the Griekwa Rugby Team and in 2003 his album, Afrikaans My Trots, achieved gold status after selling more than 100 000 copies.
