The Green Connection

Podcast: Advocacy Officer Lisa Makuala explains the vital work The Green Connection does to protect our natural resources and the livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

Time : 12.35

The Green Connection was established in 2000. In 2021 the civil society organisation was restructured to be a non-profit with a board of directors and section 18A tax benefit status. It consists of a dynamic and multidisciplinary group of individuals and organisations with the aim of contributing to sustainable development goals.

Our Principles

The Green Connection believes that empowering people to participate in decision-making about their environment is the only way for sustainable development.  Our environmental resources are limited and not ours to squander but to protect for future generations. We believe that economic growth and development, improvement of socio-economic status and conservation of natural resources can only occur within a commonly understood framework of sustainable development. Our organisation aims to provide practical support to both the government and non-government and civil society sectors, which are an integral part of sustainable development.

Sustainable Development

The Green Connection has worked with diverse funders and partners, as well as national and local governments on various initiatives to foster understanding and awareness about the different aspects of sustainable development.

We are involved in Eco-Justice :

Involved in various initiatives, for example, to improve energy efficiency in South Africa from supporting renewable energy to providing fuel-efficient stoves.

Community Empowerment :

We are dedicated to empowering individuals and communities through workshops and community outreach, to make our way of life more sustainable.

Resource Advocacy :

We wish to empower young activists, women in particular, to intervene in the policy and legislative space, so that decision-making processes are strengthened to ensure effective implementation of governance in the natural environment, conservation and environmental justice spheres.
