Kaycee is joined by Dr Eileen Scheckle, a Senior Lecturer at NMU, for an insightful chat on the current state of literacy in the Eastern Cape:
The Literacy Association of South Africa is a volunteer-run member body with the primary purpose of promoting literacy. Through research, sharing of best practice and community collaboration, we aim to grow a strong literacy community. We bring together individuals and organisations using various platforms including our workshops, national conference, outreach programmes, scholarly journal, website and social media. We operate at a national level and have four branches working locally. We comprise members who come from various spheres at all levels within the literacy sector. LITASA is a registered NPO and PBO.
Let us guide you on your journey as a literacy professional. We can provide resources and learning opportunities to increase your knowledge and skills, help you to understand what prevents children and adults from attaining good literacy levels, connect you with experts, and give you a professional home. Your involvement in LITASA will help us grow a strong and vibrant community, which will help us achieve our ultimate goal of seeing every South African live a full and productive life.
The Eastern Cape branch of LITASA is full of passionate and committed literacy professionals. Many of our activities take place in Port Elizabeth and Makhanda but we jump at the chance to get involved across our beautiful province. You can contact us on ecape@litasa.org.za. It would be wonderful to connect with you.
LITASA brings together individuals and organisations to grow a strong literacy community. We do this by creating open platforms to share, inform and empower all those working towards a literate society.
Some of our projects include a podcast platform that promotes literacy in all communities
We would love to encourage you to listen to the podcast of the Eastern Cape branch of LITASA. As members of a literacy network, we are passionate about promoting literacy in all its forms and in all communities. This podcast will connect you to the work of our association in this province and beyond.
We hope it will be the beginning of many conversations. Masithethe! Go to our website to listen: www.litasa.org.za
