Aurora Special Care Centre

Aurora Special Care Centre is a local Non-Profit Organisation. Aurora consists of a Residential Care Centre which provides 24-hour residential care to 40 children and adults with profound mental and physical disabilities. A Group Home providing 24-hour care to 15 adults with mild mental and physical disabilities.

In addition, we have 80 children and adults with profound mental and physical disabilities attending the Stimulation Centre Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 to 12h00 where they receive various stimulation activities including physiotherapy (with an in-house physiotherapist) in a structured, caring environment. An aftercare facility is also available from 12h00 to 16h30 for the parents/guardians who are working.

Aurora has the infra-structure, skilled and passionate personnel, with 40 years’ experience and determination to continue fighting for the rights of the profoundly disabled. However, Aurora Special Care Centre cannot function in isolation and is dependent on the private, corporate and public sectors to assist in enhancing the social functioning of children and adults with profound disabilities.

Persons with disabilities are one of the most marginalized and vulnerable groups in our society regardless of whether they are rich or poor. They face severe developmental challenges daily and are unable to access the basic services they need. Most are not able to do anything for themselves and are defenceless against scrupulous people and abuse. Persons with disabilities literally and figuratively do not have a voice to ask for assistance and therefore Aurora Special Care Centre, which has been rendering this service for 40 years is seeking assistance on an on-going basis on their behalf.

We, therefore, appeal to all persons, companies and members of the community that can assist to please do so in whatever way possible. Your contribution allows our children and adults to live the best possible life their disability allows.

How you can help :

Aurora Angels :

Become an Aurora and sponsor a child for as little as R50 per month. As an NPO with very little support from the government, we rely heavily on donations from members of our community, we are continually facing the challenge of meeting our monthly expenses. Most of our children cannot afford to pay their full fees, and some cannot afford to pay anything at all. Your sponsorship will enable a child or adult to live the best possible life their disability allows. The Aurora Angels project operates as a simple no-fuss monthly debit order. By donating, you are investing in the quality of life of a physically or mentally disabled child or adult.
