Elderly man murdered in Kirkwood

An elderly Kirkwood man has been murdered while collecting plants in the Aqua Park-bushes on the outskirts of the town.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, has identified the man as 71-year-old John Radford.

She says he asked two men to help him with the collecting on Monday afternoon.

Swart says the alarm was only raised when someone noticed Radford's beach buggy in the bushes on Monday night.

Police, with the help of the canine unit, only found his body after midnight.

Meanwhile, police responded to a report of a break-in at a house in Sonop Street last night, which happened to be Radford's home, and arrested a suspect shortly after midnight, and another one at about 3AM.

Swart says the suspects, aged 24 and 37, are in custody and will appear in court soon.
