Renewed effort to reach consensus on info bill

Political parties in Parliament will meet privately again in a bid to reach consensus on the controversial Protection of State Information Bill.

The chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Raseriti Tau, says the process of party-to-party engagements will continue even though they're not that far apart on the Bill's content.

In May, the ANC proposed several changes to the legislation relating to the possession and disclosure of classified information.

While some of the changes were welcomed by opposition parties, the Democratic Alliance wanted wider protection for journalists and others who publicise information in the public interest.
