Walmer Township residents suspend protest

Residents of Port Elizabeth's Walmer township have suspended their protests for now.

This followed feedback from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on a list of grievances that range from housing delivery to proper sanitation.

Community spokesperson, Mbulelo Keye, says they are still not completely satisfied as some of the issues, particularly housing, could take years to resolve.

He says they will continue to engage residents on the issues and decide on the way forward at a later date.

Mayoral spokesperson, Luncedo Njezula, said while a lot of work has already gone into Walmer Township since the first protest more than a month ago, one of the most challenging issues is that of housing delivery.
