The Algoa Cares community service features are aired on Mondays and Wednesdays just after the 12:30 news headlines, with the purpose of affording established charitable organisations operating in the Eastern Cape and Garden Route areas the opportunity of making their activities known to the public at large… highlighting the desperate need of the many disadvantaged people that they serve… and inviting businesses and the public to assist by means of any donations they are able to make.
Highlights
During 2012, Algoa Cares hosted over 90 charities, raising donations & contributions to the value of close on R600 000 for these organisations.
The two regular annual features, "Bloodline” and “Winter Woolly Week” were, once again, special highlights.
“Bloodline Day", which is run in association with the SA National Blood Service, brought in a total of 954 units of blood over an 8 hour period on July 11!
“Winter Woolly Week” is a collaboration with the PE Community Chest and in 2012, well over 1000 large bags of clothing, plus other donations to the value of over R267 000, were collected. In addition, many schools participated, their learners contributing impressive quantities of clothing. Over 80 charities benefit from this annual effort. Winter Woolly Week 2012 ran from 11 - 15 June.
Algoa FM expresses a heartfelt thank you to all those wonderful listeners, individuals & businesses, who have once again contributed so generously to the charities & organisations which have appeared on Algoa Cares. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and has been of enormous benefit to many, many needy people throughout the Eastern Cape.
Together, we can make 2013 an even more memorable year!
