Young football enthusiasts, from16 football clubs in the Eastern Cape region, come together for the eagerly awaited ninth year of the Engen Knockout Challenge 2012. The annual event will be hosted once again at Gelvandale Sports Ground in Port Elizabeth and kicks off on Friday, 21 September 2012 and runs through till Sunday 23 September 2012.
The tournament, which is replicated in five regions around the country, is played in a knockout cup format where sixteen teams compete in four groups of four. The tournament will stage forty eight matches over three days with the winning team taking home R 10 000 in prize money as well as technical equipment and of course the championship silverware. Individual tournament awards for outstanding performances are also awarded to those who excel in certain identified categories.
