VIVA QUEEN! spectacular comes to the PE Opera House is association with Algoa FM
Pop , Rock, Opera and the music of legendary Queen collide in a spectacular orchestral extravaganza of music with Thailand’s sensational super voice band VIVA! , local Diva Angela Kilian, Cito the lead singer from Wonderboom and special guest Donna Africa with The Electric Pops Orchestra conducted by Mark Cheyne.
VIVA QUEEN! will be staged in concert format at the Port Elizabeth Opera house for seven performances only from the 18th to the 23rd June 2012.
Presented by Afro-Asia management limited in conjunction with Algoa FM, the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Centrestage, the production promises to take the music of Queen to heights not yet seen in the city before – an all-round rich and completely unmissable musical experience awaits both Queen fans and those who enjoy the modern synthesis between the pop, rock, orchestral, opera and theatrical genres.
Featuring five singing superstars from Thailand’s first and only pop-opera musical ensemble VIVA!, fused together with the cream of Port Elizabeth’s talent helmed by Angela Kilian fresh from playing Madame Giry in the hit production PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and the finest players from the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra along with VIVA QUEEN!
The show premieres in South Africa prior to its first Asian outing in Bangkok in August 2012.
The incredible vocals of the lead vocalist of Wonderboom, CITO will add to the vocal lineup. Cito is a musical theatre stalwart, having played Christ in the acclaimed revival of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and in the lead in the hit production of CHESS in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The fantastic cross continental fusion is completed by the special guest appearance of Centrestage’s own Donna Africa, the much loved Port Elizabeth star.
VIVA QUEEN! promises twenty something of the greatest hits of Queen, ranging from the powerful ballads like BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY to the Rock Hits such as SOMEONE TO LOVE, WE WILL ROCK YOU, DEATH ON TWO LEGS, KILLER QUEEN amongst the others.
Musical Arrangers Michael Hankinson and Mark Cheyne have scored a show with vibrant intensity that will thrill Queen fans and welcome to the club, a whole host of new fans.
The show will be spectacularly lit by Jane Gosnell and staging by Esther Nasser.
Tickets for the opening Monday evening 18th June performance are available at 2 for the price of 1, whilst the rest of the season will see tickets costing between R155 and R170, available through Computicket.
