The Arts Theatre and the Guild Theatre is celebrating 50 years of entertaining East London audiences. To commemorate their respective birthdays these two theatres are collaborating to produce Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary musical EVITA.
EVITA brings to life the dynamic, larger-than-life persona of Eva Peron (Kerry Hiles), wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron (Pieter Taljaard). Beginning with a young and ambitious Eva, the production follows her meteoric rise to sainthood. The story tells of the enormous wealth and power she gained and the means by which she became the beloved “Evita”. This hit musical which made Elaine Paige a star, was filmed with Madonna and Antonio Banderas, and was recently revived in London to great critical acclaim. EVITA features the hit songs "Don't Cry for Me Argentina", "Oh, What a Circus", "Buenos Aires", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying Adored"
EVITA won an impressive seven Tony Awards including Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical of the year. In 2012 EVITA will re-open on Broadway, starring Elena Roger as Eva and Ricky Martin as Che. The production will be directed by Amanda Bothma with choreography by Vicky Luff and Nathalie Oberem musical direction by Leonie Armour.
EVITA will be staged at the Guild Theatre from the 12th to the 23rd of June 2012. This brand new production of the smash hit show truly promises to be the theatrical event of the year!
