President Jacob Zuma has told striking mineworkers in Marikana that he will speak to Lonmin about their wage demands.
Zuma visited the area again yesterday afternoon, to speak to the striking workers.

He told them that he would send a message to the employer that they demand a monthly salary of R12,500.

Worker leader Xolani Nzuza briefed Zuma on Wednesday about the events that ended in police shooting dead 34 people last Thursday.

Nzunza told Zuma that the strikers wanted the mine to pay all workers R12,500 a month.

Meanwhile, memorial services start around the country today for the 34 miners killed in last week's Lonmin Massacre.

Eastern Cape Premier Kiviet will lead her executive council in a memorial on Thursday for the victims of the Lonmin shootings.

A reported 19 migrant workers from the Eastern Cape were among those shot dead by police last Thursday.
